It's Simple

A simple lesson in interacting with the police as a common, taxpaying citizen.

A VERY simple lesson.

1. One is driving on a heavily-travelled interstate westbound out of Denver.

2. One passes what turns out to be an unmarked county sheriff's vehicle at over the posted speed limit.

3.  After a short distance, that unmarked county sheriff's vehicle announces itself with the old tap-on-the-shoulder flashing lights.

4.  One sees this and immediately and safely pulls over, far enough off the road to not endanger either party.

5.  The officer walks up and starts the conversation with "good morning sir...do you know why I am pulling you over today?"

6.  One responds honestly, pleasantly and courteously....not like an asshole.

7.  After the officer does their normal check, they return license, registration and proof of insurance with a verbal warning and a "have a good day and please be safe".

8.  One -- pleasantly surprised since one was 15 mph over the posted limit -- responds with "thank you, and please stay safe as well out there".

The vast majority of police officers, deputy sheriffs and state troopers are as decent as any one of us.  The experience this one related had absolutely nothing to do with "white privilege".  It had everything to do with acting like a rational, mature adult exercising honesty and basic common courtesy.

On the other hand, exercising the "entitled asshole" response in a police contact tends to wins one only the increased chance for nothing but entitled asshole prizes.

Granted, there are a lot of anti-police types out there, who could care less that police are people too.  They will continue to act like entitled assholes because cnn, blm, antifa and the dnc suggest -- if not outright demand -- that they should.

And for those stupid enough to listen to that line will continue to retain the opportunity to win asshole prizes.

Not me.  I went to school to become a police officer.  I worked in a reserve role as one.  My career took a different path, but I today work with a variety of law enforcement in my vocation.

Yes, there are a few jerks that get into the field.  That's true of every career field.  But the vast majority of them are just like the deputy I dealt with on I-70 last week: professional, courteous, exceptionally competent.  Treat them like that and you don't win asshole prizes.

Police Lives Matter.  All Lives Matter.  Groups that insist that only THEIR lives matter, do not.  Period.

I wore a deputy sheriff's uniform for 25 years. There were so many disrespectful folks out there when I was working, but nothing like the asshats of today.

Have a fabulous day and weekend, Mike. My best to Seymour and Element. 😎

That is such a true statement.
